Groove
Every play writes a new song. Build it one instrument at a time.
Groove is a rhythm game in which the music is written fresh for every play. The song spins on a record with a ring for each instrument: drums, bass, keys, arpeggio and melody. Each instrument plays its loop once while you watch, then it is your turn: play its notes as they reach the needle and it locks into the song. Lock them all and the whole song plays. Every note is shown, so you can play with the sound off.
How to play
- Watch the record: each instrument's notes ride its ring toward the needle at the bottom. Each new instrument plays its loop once while you watch.
- Tap the left pad for notes on the inner lane and the right pad for the outer lane as they reach the needle. Hold the pad down through an arc.
- Play one loop cleanly and the instrument locks into the song and keeps playing. You get a few tries; miss them all and the song goes on without it.
- Sound is optional: every note is also shown, and the music you hear is written for this play only.
- Every song counts: your score is the level's difficulty times the share of instruments you locked, plus up to 15% for timing and up to 15% for tries to spare.
What it trains
Keeping time with a beat you can see and hear, reading a rhythm before it arrives, and holding your own part while the instruments you locked play around it. Explore Processing Speed training →
Improvement figures are observed in-app score gains, backed by peer-reviewed cognitive-training research.
Difficulty
Ten levels grow from three instruments at about 84 BPM with generous timing to all five at about 100 BPM with syncopated sixteenths, held notes, two-pad hits and tighter timing. Every song is composed fresh.
